How To Set Distributor Timing On Golf 1

  1. is it the same equally what i did on my kjet

Align bottom pulley notches upwards, punch marking in gearbox, ensure rotor arm is pointing to notch on dizzy so align camshaft.

On the mk2 i had to align the notch with the pinnacle of the caput, on the mk3 information technology says OT at the top centre of the rocker cover ??

  2. anyone help with this please.....

I set up the crankshaft then the punch mark was on the GearBox correctly and the notch in the pulley is at the peak of the caster.

The dizzy i aligned with the rotor arm facing the notch which is facing no4 cylinder (But there is a OT marking and a Dial mark on the pulley which doesnt align with the notch in the crankshaft caster)

Aligned the Camshaft caster with the top of the caput on the outer punch mark just there is a OT mark on the side of the caput ?? Jus realised i should exist using the inner mark shouldnt i ?

I did this no probs on the mk2 but im losing my head on this encarmine mk3

  3. ok update, gear up up lesser stop as per before, lined rotor arm with notch (nevertheless no marks lining up on the pully to the crankshaft notch), set up camshaft OT to OT marking on caput

    FIred, ran just bit lumpy.

Does the Silly seem right fix to pointing to no4 cylinder, rotor arm on notch just dial or OT mark on the pully doesnt line up

  4. i had a similar trouble setting mine up ages ago i couldnt practice it in the end, so i guessed it by ear and getting it to sound right and rev clean, i think yous are setting your pulleys right but if call up right the notch on the dizzy and the rotor arm need to be pointing to number one cylinder, cam belt side i still demand to do mine properly its running ok simply not perfect, sick be interested to hear what other people say about this matter every bit it seems yous and me have the aforementioned trouble

  5. think its sorted now

    1) Aligned Crankshaft Caster with punch mark in gearbox

    2) Loosened empty-headed clamp and aligned the mark with the bottom pulley, the notch on the dizzy was facing approx 2 oclock looking at it towards the water resovoir

    3) Aligned the camshaft pulley with OT marks on caput and pulley

    4) Put chugalug on and did 2 total turns and all was aligned bob on

    5) Then started motorcar, it sounded well ameliorate, got information technology up to temp then timed it with the arrow mark as per RUBjohnnys guide with disconnnecting the Blue sender, pluggin PCV using the MFA clandestine menu to make sure got rpm on 2-ii.25k rpm

Idle is at present settling at 850-900 rpm and sounds sweeter.

Will be taking it out presently se how it feels in one case cooled downwardly as need check oil/h2o

  6. good to hear ya got information technology sorted im gonna have another go my self this afternoon.. was i correct near where the rotor arm and the notch on the empty-headed point to looking from the front of the car pointing most 10oclock towards number one cylinder at the cam belt side i inquire because its been ages since i did it and cant call back lol
  7. no mate when pulleys are lined upward fella the notch should be pointing towards the coolant resovior if you become me
